Three Peaks Race
The Yorkshire Dales Fell Running Race
The Three Peaks Race is an annual, organised event, in which competitors race to
climb each of the Yorkshire three peaks - Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, and Whernside
- and is one of the oldest, most famous and best organised fell races in Britain.
First run in 1954, the Race covers 24 miles of the most rugged and spectacular countryside
in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, taking competitors to a height of 2,500 feet
above sea level. The record time is held by English international Andy Peace of
Bingley Harriers, who completed this gruelling challenge in 2 hours, 46 minutes,
03 sec in 1996. The women's record of 3 hours 14 min 43 sec is held by Czech Republic
international Anna Pichrtova in 2008.
Competitors must carry a compass, whistle, emergency food, map of the route, and
wind and waterproof jacket and trousers at all times, to ensure adiquate safety.
The Three Peaks Race is a navigational event, with only some areas of the route
being flagged.

April 2010, starting and finishing at Horton-in-Ribblesdale.
